A Persona-Driven Approach to Skills for Migrant Learners
This week the AI Cookbook team met in Athens to work collaboratively and test out some of the recipes we are creating to support educators of adult migrants.
A common challenge in migrant education is addressing a classroom of diverse needs. How can one lesson serve a recently-arrived retiree, a former doctor, and a young job-seeker simultaneously? Our answer is to start with people.
Our project is built directly on the real-world experiences and triggers of our learners and teachers and each recipe is a response to a specific persona’s needs.
By starting with a deep understanding of the person, their fears, goals, daily realities, and needs we ensure that we are grounding the work in pedagogy rather than looking for a way to shoehorn a tool into our teaching. The lesson should always be about the person using the tool to finally send that message, understand the letter, or apply for a job with confidence.
We are busy putting the finishing touches to the resources but in the meantime you can have a look at some of the personas here. We welcome your suggestions for helping to solve the situations our learners face, let us know on LinkedIn.
