Uni Bremen informs: Artificial intelligence as a mentor for lifelong learning
In the “Uni Bremen informs” series, we report on the research and development activities of the University of Bremen on the topic of AI in education (or related to it) and refer to central project results.
In the joint project “KIM – Artificial Intelligence as a Mentor for Lifelong Learning” (project duration: 01. September 2021 to 31. August 2024), an AI solution will be developed that offers users of professional training platforms targeted assistance in the selection of training opportunities. The users and their professional and career wishes are the focus of the project. They initially carry out a self-assessment of their competencies and express their current professional and career wishes, as well as their own preferences (e.g. free and paid offers, time restrictions with regard to course offers, etc.).
When searching for suitable continuing education courses, the AI also considers the data stored by users in the platform, such as educational qualifications, and compares the existing competencies with certificates. Furthermore, the AI works as a trend detection system to identify technological trends in the professional fields as well as trends on the job market, and thus to identify future-oriented competence requirements for the users.
From the possible education and training courses, the AI should suggest a target-oriented education and training curriculum to the user. In the future, the solution should also be able to compile curricula via suitable course certifications that, taken together, can result in approved educational qualifications.
