AI Pioneers and a South African-German study visit to exchange ideas in VET
A South African-German study visit to exchange ideas on the training and education of TVET lecturers and teachers has been recently carried out at the Institut Technik und Bildung (ITB) of the Universität Bremen under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) from South Africa and GOVET, the German Office for International Cooperation in Vocational Education and Training. In workshop settings and during site visits, curricula and practice of TVET teacher education in both countries has been discussed.
Furthermore, Michael Gessler, Frieda Klaus und Lisa Meyne from the AI Pioneers project had on 2nd April the opportunity to organise a workshop on the integration of artificial intelligence in vocational education and training to engage in lively discussions about various application contexts. Based on case studies of vocational education from the perspective of teachers and students, the potential, competences and challenges of AI were discussed. A consensus has emerged that AI should be actively addressed in lessons and that process-related reflection is essential, particularly with regard to ethical issues in vocational education
