AI course for image recognition software – A practical example from the vocational school Neustadt am Rübenberge, Germany
On June 14, 2023, Dr. Ludger Deitmer and Iven Dersch travelled to the vocational school in Neustadt am Rübenberge to gain an insight into the extent to which the topic of AI is already being implemented in the classroom.
The vocational school in Neustadt am Rübenberge is currently offering an AI course based on image recognition software for robotics. Teachers Dr. Tärre and Mr. Beier have designed a Python-based AI software that uses camera data and training images to analyze the position of a roll of adhesive tape. This is identified independently of its position by image recognition and attached to an unwinding reel by a robot. The students’ task is to teach the software using training data they have generated themselves. The previous course will be integrated into teaching sequences on robotics. According to the teachers, image recognition software is classified as ethically uncritical in this didactic-technical context, as no personal data is processed.
