The use of robotics at the vocational school ‚ Birkenstraße‘ in Osnabrück, Germany
On May 17, 2023, Dr. Ludger Deitmer and Iven Dersch from the Institute of Technology and Education (ITB) at the University of Bremen made their way to Osnabrück (Germany) and gained an insight into how robotics is used at the vocational school called ‚Birkenstraße‘.
Financed by public funding programs (e.g. the Digital Pact with a funding volume of 5 billion euros from the German government), an innovation and future center for collaborative robotics was opened at the vocational school. Students in vocational education and training have the opportunity to work with 13 collaborative robots. Collaborative robots are industrial robots with which humans work together without protective equipment in the production process.
There is currently an obstacle to integrating the topic of AI into the existing curriculum. As part of their dual vocational training, students can voluntarily participate in the offer in the form of a working group (AG)
The Innovation and Future Center is networked with 13 general education schools in the region and Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences in order to support cooperation between learning locations and increase the attractiveness of STEM professions.
