The potential transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) spans all economic and social sectors, including education. UNESCO report highlights that despite the potential that generative AI brings to education, some major concerns are raised that need to be reconsidered to prevent disruption.

In a recent webinar led by esteemed professor Chris Dede and postdoctoral fellow Lydia Cao from Harvard Graduate School of Education, the focus was demystifying AI and re-envisioning education. They clarified generative AI’s capabilities and distinctions from human intelligence. As Chris Dede notes, “If we’re not smart about understanding what AI can and can’t do, and if we’re not smart about AI, we’re going to use it as kind of digital duck-tape to hold together an obsolete industrial or educational system instead of lucking to the future and developing new models of learning that are based on this partnership between people and machines that can prepare students to the complexities of the 21st century.”
Experts also advocated for a shift in education towards a process-centric model, addressed plagiarism concerns, and provided concrete strategies for educators in the AI-enhanced learning landscape.
